Granular-slurry rheology and asphalt compaction

چکیده
Hot mixed asphalt (HMA) is a mixture of particles (coarse and fine aggregates) interstitial fluid (asphalt binder) designed to compact harden for long-lasting roads. In this study, we implement two-scale approach capture the compaction behaviour hot mixtures using both granular-slurry rheology (GSR) at smaller scale discrete element method (DEM) simulation compactor. We show that modelling effort captures HMA with different binder viscosities modified by adding graphene nano-platelets (GNP). This research has capacity shed light on how properties components can influence efficiency effectiveness.

Rheology of Titania Pigment Slurry
Titania is one of the most important white pigments currently used in the world with a total annual production of about 6 million [1]. Titania pigment slurry properties are very important for consumer industries such as paints, papermaking and plastics; if aggregates are present, the end-use properties including gloss, brightness, colour hue, opacity and storage stability will be highly affecte...
متن کاملUnifying suspension and granular rheology.
Using an original pressure-imposed shear cell, we study the rheology of dense suspensions. We show that they exhibit a viscoplastic behavior similarly to granular media successfully described by a frictional rheology and fully characterized by the evolution of the friction coefficient μ and the volume fraction ϕ with a dimensionless viscous number I(v). Dense suspension and granular media are t...

متن کاملRheology of surface granular flows
Surface granular flow, comprising granular material flowing on the surface of a heap of the same material, occurs in several industrial and natural systems. The rheology of such flow is investigated by means of measurements of velocity and number density profiles in a quasi-two-dimensional rotating cylinder, half-filled with a model granular material mono-size spherical stainless steel particle...
متن کاملVortex jamming in superconductors and granular rheology
We demonstrate that a highly frustrated anisotropic Josephson junction array (JJA) on a square lattice exhibits a zero-temperature jamming transition, which shares much in common with those in granular systems. Anisotropy of the Josephson couplings along the horizontal and vertical directions plays roles similar to normal load or density in granular systems. We studied numerically static and dy...
